Same-day voter registration
Same-day registration describes a process in which an eligible voter may complete registration and cast a ballot during the same visit, either on Election Day or during an earlier voting period. Some states instead offer a later in-person registration window, a grace period, or a provisional-ballot procedure. The exact name, timing, locations and proof requirements are set by each state.
VoteDeadline.com does not publish a definitive national list of same-day registration states. Instead we show the general registration rule recorded for each jurisdiction, and we publish an election-specific date only after it has been verified against an official election authority.
General rules that mention a later or same-day option
General information reviewed September 16, 2026. Some options apply only during early voting or require a provisional ballot; not every listed state offers Election Day registration.
